Comcast Extends Free Wi-Fi Service For California Xfinity Customers

California customers for Comcast’s Xfinity Internet service will now have access to free Wi-Fi hotspots outside their home, so they can access the internet with their mobile device no matter where they are. This new perk is included free for subscribers with qualifying internet plans. Subscribers can connect to the internet as long as their mobile devices can pick up the Xfinity Wi-Fi network in public areas throughout Northern and Central California and Santa Barbara County, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Fresno, Monterey, Santa Maria and Chico.

“Our customers are increasingly leveraging wireless devices, platforms and apps, and looking for ways to enjoy their entertainment and communications outside of their homes,” stated Elaine Barden, Regional VP of Marketing for Comcast California. “With Xfinity Wi-Fi, we’re providing them a fast wireless Internet experience while they’re out shopping, eating or otherwise enjoying their time in Northern and Central California.”

Comcast started its rollout of free Wi-Fi service for Xfinity internet subscribers in the East Coast, setting up thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.

In May of this year, Comcast signed an agreement with Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Cox Communications, and Time Warner Cable to let Xfinity internet customers access their Wi-Fi hotspot networks. No extra overhead is necessary to build and deploy more Wi-Fi hotspots, which results in significant cost savings and value for Xfinity internet customers.
